Convener's Message: My name is Merle H
Gordon III, and I have recently taken on the role of Convener for the House of
Gordon Maine. I’m in high hopes
Mike Davis who will continue as Vice Convener for Maine, and myself will build
the House of Gordon Maine into one of the largest Houses here in the United
States. I know many families do not realize their history, and that is one of
the great things about the House of Gordon, family History and being proud of
it. It will be in my hopes to not only have the representation of the Gordon
family and their septs in place at the Highland Games, but to also work towards
family gatherings, work shops on family history and meetings where we can get
involved with the community as a family. I hope to also work closely with the
Gordon DNA Project, in order to update our family members on new findings.
Recently at a Gordon Family reunion I had the great chance to meet Jim Gordon
from the DNA project, they have worked hard to help Gordon’s find their tie
into the past. I will be having a tent
at the Maine Highland games this year, so I hope to meet many of you at this
time. I live in Norridgewock Maine
and my door is always open. Anyone needing help on their family line please do
not hesitate to ask for my help. My phone number is 207-634-3727. I hope we can
all partake by building this into a new beginning for the House of Gordon in Maine. Bydand Merle Gordon, Convener House of Gordon - Maine
Vice-Convener's Message For
years I have been striving to rekindle interest in our family heritage.
When I was a child, there was never any discussion around the dinner
table regarding our history. I have always been a history buff and I
believe the quest for knowledge of our past is what started me in that
direction. For the past 10 years I have been immersing myself in
Scottish and Gordon history. I attend all of the highland games within
driving distance and over the past few years other members of my family
have started to show a strong interest and have been attending with me.
I have two daughters aged 8 and 6. They share my excitement regarding
all things Scottish. Although they do not understand everything yet,
they are seeing the importance of keeping our history alive as well as
seeing the joy that it brings to their family. The rekindling has
begun...
